I was Kaden’s weapon. I was powerful. They knew it, and I knew it. I was a blade made of fire and flesh.
“The fabled World Ender. The legend. The Son of Unir. Wielder of the Blade of Oblivion. And where is he?”
Marriage wasn’t a piece of paper you got that said you were bound to one another. It was beyond permanent and meant you were one in almost every sense of the word. When you married, you became true partners, the bond that of soul mates.
“A big change is coming your way.”
“A single act can change the world.”
We can pretend that these last two weeks are real and that we are the perfect sisters who braid each other’s hair, go out for drinks, and paint our nails. But the absolute truth of it is that we are not. We both died centuries ago in that damned desert.
He was gorgeous, in a wants-me-dead kind of way.
He assessed me, looking for weapons, not knowing I was the weapon.
“You really have no idea, do you? Your powers, your strengths?”
My heart skipped for the first time in a millennium.
The seals that hold the barriers to the realms are intact. Your world is safe, and will remain so as long as I breathe.”
“Hello, handsome. We meet again. I met your lovely wife a few minutes ago. Neverra, right?”
“Good boy, keep your bitches in line.”
“They say you’re a god. Hard to kill and damn near invincible. Weapons have to be forged to snuff out that precious light.”
“Does that make you fireproof?” A slow mischievous smile curved her lips as she turned both hands palms-up. Twin flames erupted from them, her eyes shining a fiery red.

I would give up fighting and battles to spend a thousand days with you.”
are you going to hit me? Slap me around a little? If you do it hard enough, I might like it.”
If we don’t look like you, if we don’t eat what you eat, behave how you behave, then we are nothing and beneath you, right? I’m so fucking sorry. Allow me to pretend to care. Your kind has hunted and prosecuted mine for eons.”
“You would fight a god?” “No,” I said without hesitation, “I’d kill one.”
What would it be like to truly be loved? I wondered what it would be like to be wanted for me and not my powers of destruction.
I wasn’t sure I knew how to love, if I were truly honest with myself.
“Repeat after me. Blood of my blood, my life is sealed with yours until the deal is made complete. I grant you my maker’s life in exchange for my sister’s life. She shall remain free, unharmed, and alive, or the deal is broken. My life is yours after, to do with what you must.”
I wondered if I’d traded one monster for another.
“Well, I was fucking him.” The word did not register. “‘Fucking’?” She threw her head back and laughed, her tone mocking as she said, “Oh, gods, that explains so much about you. Anyway, I’m talking about sex. You know, intimacy—that thing two or more people do, usually without clothes, but sometimes with?”
“It seems you are more like your sister than I previously thought.”
“I apologize for my roughness, but we must leave this instant, and I am much faster on my feet than you.”
Gods, he was beautiful, but he was a complete and utter dick, and I was over beautiful but cruel men.
“You radiate power. I can feel the energy you give off through the walls. Even in that fortress of a building, I could feel you pacing back and forth these last few weeks.”
I knew this scene would forever be burned into my memories. The realization came with a pang of disappointment.
I looked around, wondering why the memory was important to him. I got that he was a guy, but typically the memories I saw in blooddreams had affected the being profoundly. Usually, what I saw were acts or feelings of such emotional impact that they had become a part of what made the individual who they were.
“You are absolutely tormenting. You realize that, correct?” “I love it when you flirt with me.”
You can’t break a pinkie promise. It’s like the law, but not your boring laws.”
“Very well. Pinkie promise.”
“Does this require another pinkie?”
“There is only one bed.” “Great, you’re observant. I’m so proud. Now come here.”
“The realms must always have a guardian. My father feared war and had decided on a contingency plan. I was that plan.”
