One of the most important skills I learned in therapy is one I’m still working to master: becoming comfortable with being uncomfortable. And for me, that’s largely about accepting the fact that 97 percent of what happens is beyond my control.
Either you deal with your trauma, or your trauma deals with you.
Trauma is like credit card debt. The payment is bad enough, but the interest will ruin you.
Basically, the army wires every soldier to think “What I did was no big deal.” It’s an absolutely necessary form of brainwashing that helps you keep going.
