Ten years ago Rory watched through a window as her sister was brutally murdered, setting in motion Rory’s path to becoming one of the most prolific serial killers in all of Erdikoa.
Merrows were soul stealers, and their abilities were supposed to be bound by the Crown, but somehow, his weren’t.
Merrows used souls to heal themselves if they were hurt or to extend their lives as they aged.
That asshole would pay.
“Listen to me Aurora, do not let him fool you; his darkness is poison. Only the golden child can save you.”
Her insinuation was clear, and the man’s face lit up like a teenager seeing a girl’s tits for the first time.
There were only three Royals in the realms; Gedeon, the Lux King, who controlled light; Adila, the Scales of Justice, judge of the guilty, and Caius, the Umbra King, who controlled shadows.
Historical texts state there had once been a fourth Royal, Atarah, who ruled over Erdikoa as the Lux Queen, but Caius murdered her, caught standing over her body, soaked in blood with his dagger in hand.
It was obvious his sister knew this woman would tempt him because physically, Aurora was everything he sought in a partner when he could still move freely between the two realms.
“Say what you want about her, but I think she’s a hero.”
“Your soul is a beautiful shade of grey, Miss Raven.”
If there was more evidence Rory wasn’t the heartless killer the news made her out to be, he would find it. He had to find it.
Sam entered quietly. “Eat,” he commanded and shoved the plate he’d made into her hands.
“My eyes are up here, Miss Raven,” he drawled. Damn him.
She yelped when he backed her into a wall, and a shadow squeezed her throat lightly. “You couldn’t handle the way I fuck, Miss Raven.” Her chest was heaving when he stepped back and turned. “Seemed pretty basic to me,” she mumbled, rubbing her throat.
The king may hate her, but he was attracted to her, too. Nothing brought down a man’s defenses like sex.
It was never Bellina leaving her food—it was Caius.
This woman would be the end of him.
Because he called her Rory.
“It is the only thing that matters. Tell me who did this to you, or I will raze the entire fucking town to the ground.” His
“Your pain belongs to me.”
“What do you see when you look at me?” “An asshole,” she replied. Her answer was immediate, and he frowned. “That was rude,” he muttered.
“She’s my Aeternum,” Caius said as he slammed open Samyaza’s door. “Did you know?”
“If you wanted to see me naked, Miss Raven, all you had to do was ask.”
“Excuse me, Your Grace. I didn’t expect to see a penis today.”
“I wouldn’t make someone pay for their own work clothes, but thank you for reminding me how little you think of me.”
“If you’d stop being a prick to her, she might end up liking you,” Sam said as he pulled an entire banana out of his pocket. “How did you fit a banana in your pants?” “My pants already carry something much larger.” Sam grinned as he peeled the fruit and took a large bite.
“Are you trying to get the king to fuck you?”
“The king will give you the day off. If anyone understands how hard losing people is, it’s him.”
He didn’t love her, not yet, but one day he would.
“We all go through tough situations; it’s the nature of life. Doesn’t mean we get to be twats to everyone.”
