The world was full of extraordinary women.
In war, there were bad people, but there were also those who were good. It was all about who one chose to surround themselves with.
There was no right way to respond—to sacrifice a loved one and yourself, to whom others looked upon for help, or to intervene for those who saved others, and be arrested as well in the process. The sacrifice would be for naught. Being an impossible situation, however, didn’t stop Zofia from hating herself for her silence, nor did it make her feel any less like a coward.
It was a reminder for those willing to pay attention that in war, even the winners lost, that they were all mortal no matter how invincible they felt.
