He had never done anything, apart from occasional attempts to make her fight with her mother; always little things, like the plates, or like swearing he’d told her they were leaving soon when she knew full well that he hadn’t. Always his word against hers. And what she had learned, again and again, was that her mother would believe him every time.
“You’re a child. If an adult hurt you, that’s on them, not on you.
It’s a terrible thing, to be found.”
“Travel can be hard,” he said. “It wears on the heart, even when it’s done on purpose,
a choice you make without knowing the consequences isn’t any choice at all!”
