“For the record, I never said I don’t like you,” Ezra said as he glanced at her. “I just don’t know you yet.”
Ezra smiled and nodded slowly, then reached forward to take her hand. He raised from his seat, brought her hand to his mouth, and kissed the back of it.
“You look. . .well, damn, Davenport, you look like a proper little country fairy,”
“What are you looking at?” “You.” He smiled, leaning against the door with his shoulder. “You are beautiful with your little crown on,”
“Sometimes, when we live somewhere long enough, we forget to admire what gemstones are right under our nose, forgotten about for dreams of bigger and wilder places,”
“Sleep with me?” Ana spluttered when he made to leave, and he turned to look at her with a raised eyebrow. “In the bed, obviously. Sleep with me in the bed. I mean, sleep beside me in the bed.”
“You drool in your sleep, by the way.” Ana blushed deeply and wiped the corner of her mouth in embarrassment. “No, I don’t.” “You do.” He laughed. “But it’s cute.”
