“Dear lord,” I grumble as I scan her latest updates. “Did you just say dear lord? You really are regressing into a small town hick.”
“I don’t really care how long it’s been,” I tell him with more conviction than I’ve felt about anything in years. “Meg will always be my best friend.”
back in. “I...That night...” I stammer, gripping my paddle like it’s some kind of weapon to ward off everything but her. “That night we...kissed, I...” I lower my voice for the word kissed, and I see the little shiver that runs through her. “I liked it. I didn’t want you to stop. I never wanted you to stop.”
“Meg, I felt gross because that girl wasn’t you. You’re what I wanted. You’re what I was looking for, and it took me so long to admit it that I lost you.”
Then I open YouTube and search for Hayley Kiyoko.
I stare at her lips as they close around the plump, juicy tomato, and I don’t think I’ve ever been so turned on by a vegetable before. Or a fruit. I guess they’re technically a fruit.
“You’re my big sister. You can do anything.”
“I just think it would be a whole lot better if my life there included you.”
“It is,” I agree as she leads the way into the lobby, “but you’re worth breaking the rules for.”
