Five enemies of peace inhabit us—avarice, ambition, envy, anger, and pride. If these were to be banished, we should enjoy perpetual peace.
They must hate us. But let them hate so long as they fear us too.”
“The questions a person asks say a lot about them,” he said, looking her in the eye. “But the work they do says even more.
Man has no greater enemy than himself.
There are many lessons to be learned in suffering. We would never learn to be brave if all evils were removed by the asking.
that which we conceive in thought and marry to desire becomes real. Unfortunately, most lack the will to persist. They quit too soon.
The truth always comes out, usually when it is the least convenient.
“It is more honorable, my dear, to be raised to a throne than to be born to one. Fortune bestows the one, merit obtains the other.”
“Pride is poisonous, but not ambition.
“You know what to do if you want to learn the truth. You must decide how much you want answers. What fears you are willing to face.”
“Put your trust in the power that leads you to do good, like your friend always has. To be just and fair, even if you are mistreated. To walk humbly always. To discern the hearts of others.
Man is to man either angel or wolf. From my experience, it is more often wolf. Savage, cunning, constantly preying on the weak, the aged, the sick in order to cull the herd. But some people are angels who strengthen the weak, visit and honor the aged, and heal the sick. It is easy to mistake angels for being harmless, but in the tomes of the angels, called the Sefers, the angels carry swords. And their words are just as sharp.
Sooner or later, little sister, everyone sits down to a banquet of consequences.”
Many problems can be avoided through careful planning. That is why I train the Apocrisarius to be watchful, vigilant, and act soon instead of late. Prevention is better than a cure.
“Do you not think the Medium has tried to persuade the learned, the powerful, and the strong that things need to change? But the learned, the powerful, and the strong won’t change until they have to. The humble, the meek, the patient, the persevering—they are the ones who get things done. Even a simple oak tree can bring down a wall with its roots.”
Just as day wars with night, so the druids have a dark side. There is a duality in all things.
But thought, without plan, without action, yields nothing.
It is my maxim that if you keep thinking about what you want to do or what you hope will happen, you don’t do it and it won’t happen.
