There can be scientific hypotheses—for example, about the early universe—that could never be falsified. But I’m happy to say that the simulation hypothesis is not a squarely scientific hypothesis but one that is partly scientific and partly philosophical. Some versions of it are subject to test, while other versions of it are impossible to test. But whether testable or not, the simulation hypothesis is a perfectly meaningful hypothesis about our world.
