Who did this to you?”
“I know you never would intentionally, but you’re young, and teenagers do stupid things. I think you’re mature beyond your years, and I am so proud of the young man you’re becoming. I’m only cautioning you because I see the bond you have with Zach, and I’m not sure you truly understand what it would mean to lose that. It’s a once-in-a-lifetime kind of friendship…love…and so many go through life searching for what you’ve found so young. Many never find it.”
“You’ve given him a lot of space in here. Take care of your heart, Son, because that boy in the kitchen is most of it.”
“Except for one thing…I don’t do glitter. Glitter is banned from this room and your body because it would get all over me, too, and sparkles do not go well with my complexion.”
“Glitter is at the top of my list now.” He smirks.
If he really wanted glitter, I’d buy it for him and wear it wherever it landed if it would make him happy, but I don’t tell him that.
He’s kind and gentle, and everything so many people should inspire to be.
I scoot over and spoon him, knowing he won’t relax otherwise. He takes my hand and holds it to his chest in this sweet way that makes me smile.
“He’s right. You walked into our lives, and we knew you were ours even then.”
I know it’s weird, but I think of them as my in-laws, and I get to call them Mom and Dad because I’m with Brady.
It irks me a little that he’s getting Zach’s time instead of me. Zach has a million times more depth than any of my friends in the pool with me.
“There’s something so special about him, isn’t there.”
“He really is, Dad. I am grateful every day that I found him in the woods and became his friend.”
He’s truly beautiful when he smiles.
He reaches over to run the back of his fingers down my cheek.
I reach up for the shampoo bottle and carefully wash his hair, shielding his eyes as the water rinses it out. He lets me rub soap over his back and arms, his hands…
“Do you ever get tired of saving me?”
“I didn’t do it for you. I did it for Zach and because I wanted to spend time with him,” he says pointedly, clearly not happy with my choice of words.
Grandma smiles. “God knows your husband will be spoiled with your cooking. He’ll think he won the lottery when you cook for him the first time.” Husband…
My stomach feels a little nauseous, and I wonder if I’m coming down with something.
“He’s gone, baby. I promise you’re safe now. Come back to me… I promise I’ll be right here with you.” Baby. He’s never called me baby before.
“Baby, you need to calm down and take a breath.”
“Do you think I’ll ever get to an age where I don’t cry? I’m supposed to be a man.”
“It’s hard to picture you as some manly man. You’ve got that whole twinkish, pretty boy thing going on.” “Pretty boy? Are you saying I’m pretty?” He rolls his eyes. “Yes, I’m saying you’re pretty.”
“Want to go down and start breakfast?” “Brady ordered me not to leave this room.”
“You thought he was bossy and protective before; I have a feeling he’s going to take it to a whole new level now.” “Doesn’t bother me. I like him that way.”
“You heard him; he likes me this way.”
“Zach’s everything that is good in this world, and maybe some people think he needs to grow up or should get used to the bad stuff, but he’s had enough bad stuff for a lifetime. He deals with it in his own way…and that’s by being sensitive to everyone. He feels things stronger than most, and with that, he needs the happy stuff, or he’ll drown in all the wrong kind of emotions.”
should be, as many Hallmark movies as I’ve watched lately. I have Tangled memorized because he watches it every time you leave him at home.” Tangled is his comfort movie when he’s sad, and hearing that sends a sharp pain right through my heart. He needs it every time I’m gone.
“Brady?” “Yes, baby…come back to me. You’re safe.”
“Brady,” I hear him sob again. “I’m here, baby.”
“Baby, I’m right here. Just let me get these clothes off you.”
your relationship… I only want you to be happy.”
“You didn’t do anything, baby.” I kiss his forehead again. “I love you. That’s all I want you
to concentrate on right now. I love you. You’re safe and I’m not upset with you and you did nothing wrong. Your family loves you and Honey loves you. No one outside of that matters. Except for Connor maybe, because he’d throw himself in front of a bus for you.”
“I love you, Brady,” he says, with so much feeling it sends s...

people and what they do, only your reaction to their behavior. Don’t give them a single part of you, not even your anger. Feel it for a moment, but then move on. They are of no meaning or value in your life. They only have power if you give it to them, so don’t. It’s over and done with. Learn from it and move on.”
want to.” “My home is with you,” he says instantly.
“Baby…you have to stop crying, or you’re going to make yourself sick.” His voice sounds torn and shaky.
Five years together and now he’s gone. I feel like my very soul just drove away, and it breaks me into pieces.
“Good boy.”
I’m so sick of watching him wait for you to fall in love with him and never giving himself a chance to love someone else. Sick of it.”

“What are you talking about? Fall in love with him? I love Zach.” “You’re so fucking blind!”
“He’s been in love with you since the day he met you. You crushed him when he saw you making out with Carrie on your bed. I wanted to fucking punch you so hard
