There were no heroes in the dangerous parts of the Realm.
“Don’t call me your highness. I don’t intend to take the post.” “Unfortunately, I must address you by a title.” “Your heinous will do just fine.”
“This is more comfortable now, but if I have to run, things might get dicey.” “Yes, you’ll give yourself a black eye.”
“Shadow visually softens all,” he replied. “But it is only an illusion. The sun will re-emerge and show the sharp edges.”
Knock, knock, who’s there? Madam. Madam who? Ma-damn foot is caught in the door, open up!”
“Within destruction, there is always an opportunity for a masterpiece.”
“The rush of power. The rage. Within it, the beauty. That is hellfire.”
“You didn’t let me die. I suppose I’ll have to return the favor.” “Mighty magnanimous of you.” “Yes. I think so.”
“She said that nature wasn’t organized. It was beautiful chaos.
“This is the weirdest and hottest thing we’ll probably ever do. We’re in a demon sex club in the Underworld in a private…cave or something, on the demon equivalent of ecstasy. Like…is this real life?”
“When in a demon sex club, you just gotta do like the demons do, I guess.”
They were fearsome beasts, which was cool, and they flew, which was cooler, and they allowed their person to fly on top of them, which was a life goal. A huge life goal.
“Vulnerabilities aren’t something to be afraid of. They make us stronger in the end. You cannot really hate unless you know how to love. And you cannot revel in rage if you don’t know great passion. You cannot claim true vengeance unless you’ve felt the rush of fear that something you love has been hurt or lost. You will never know your true strength unless you give in to your greatest weaknesses.
“It isn’t about the size; it’s about the motion in the ocean,” I said without thinking. “I am thankful I’ve never had to give that excuse to a woman.”
The dragon had washed away every ounce of cool I possessed. Now I knew what Penny always felt like.
Unicorns were cool, but unicorns didn’t want to give people rides and they didn’t talk. Or fly.
He had to know the lengths I would go to in order to win. It was a problem. I was not working on it.
I couldn’t believe I’d known Archion for only three days. It was insane. I felt connected to him in a way I hadn’t felt connected to many others. And he wasn’t even human! Although…neither was Lucifer. And neither was Darius. And Cahal…and, well, me. Okay, being human meant nothing.
All was fair in tomfoolery and shenanigans, after all.
Lust, passion, sex—they are meant to be experienced and explored. It’s natural, for all creatures. If it weren’t, it wouldn’t feel good.
“Boy will I feel stupid if this was all an elaborate scheme to rip my heart out,” I said. “In that case, we’d both feel stupid. Being elaborate just wastes time.”
How could Lucifer ever think I could sex him away? That was a person who didn’t understand deep, soul-crushing love. He might’ve really liked my mom, but he hadn’t loved her. Not like this. Not even close.
What’s our plan? Archion asked. Don’t have one. I figure…we just dive down and scorch them all. What if they don’t scorch? Then I flatten them with air. Good plan. My kinda dragon. No plan was a good plan.
I firmed up the air around me, slowing my descent drastically, and dropped down in front of a very confused demon with five horns on his head, no eyes, and his dick swinging so low he should consider knotting the thing to keep it out of the way.
Cahal shot down from the sky, nearly to me. That was the problem with not having a plan: you nearly missed important moments, like when it rained grumpy druids.
I am almost always your platonic friend, but sometimes, in certain situations, I remember that I am a man, and you are a beautiful, fiery woman, and my body responds accordingly. I have a thing for women in battle…and a thing with my ears. You are hitting too many buttons right now. I need you to back off.
If they were going to call me princess, I’d kill them like royalty.
And we will prepare a visit to the princess of the Dark Kingdom. For that will be her title whether or not she accepts it. After this, she has earned it.
“You’re a good man, Roger,” I said, and meant it. “A good leader.” He huffed out a laugh. “Now I know I’m dreaming.” “Yeah. Everything has gone totally tits up. I know, it’s ridiculous.”
We are the top of the food chain. We are the predators of predators. I used to think that was vampires. I stood corrected.
