My entire life, I’d battled between the internal conflicts I mustered up in thought and the non-confrontational introvert in me that tended to keep those conflicts bottled up.

“It is. This week, every night, you and I have sat on that ledge to watch the sun set and turn the entire sky red… and we’ve marveled at how unbelievably beautiful it is.” He gently pulled my hands from my face. “Red is beautiful… and sexy… and fun when it wants to be. And on you?” He lightly touched my braid, “It’s perfection.”

“But this… the way that I love you… It’s something else entirely. This love showed up and made sense of every other moment in my life.”

“What if it would’ve been me out there?” He frowned, keeping his eyes shut, “It wasn’t never gonna’ be you..” “How do you know?” He brought the other arm up and scratched the top of her head affectionately. “Because I know where ye’ are at all times. Always got my eye on ye.’ And if I cain’t see ye,’ ye’ ain’t never far enough away from me I cain’t get to ye.’ It wasn’t never gonna be you.”
