This approach may run counter to habitual ways of being and doing, particularly for those of us who grew up in a Western society. We’re programmed to react to circumstances, take control of our situations, try to force positive thoughts, and immediately jump into problem solving. But it’s the step of acceptance that makes all of these other strategies effective.
