“Jared.” I framed his face with my hands, seizing his gaze. “I know you’re worried, and I know you’re pissed, but whatever they did has already been done. That vampire said it wasn’t going to make me ill. We have to cling onto that, because right now there’s a female who is ill, and we need to talk with her.”
Panting and shaking with the aftershocks of my orgasm, I griped, “Now will you untie me?” “No,” mumbled Jared, who was using my breast as a pillow.
Sam sighed. “Admittedly, I am. So for every time you fail to answer our questions, I will crack this whip at you. This can be over quickly, or it can be prolonged. Totally your choice, though the latter sounds more appealing to me. It’s part of the ‘crazy, homicidal bitch’ thing.”
Note to self: Never piss off Jude.
“One doesn’t need such a gift to see that your bond is solid. In fact, it’s almost feral in its intensity.
Wes’ devious smile didn’t put me at ease whatsoever. “Is that thing going to hurt her?” Jared demanded. With a ‘pfft’, Wes waved a hand. “It is merely a serpent, Jared.”
“Let’s look at it this way: you need to use a gift to piss me off and make me jealous. All I have to do to have that effect on you is breathe.”
“Stop it, or I’ll get horny again.” I smiled at the breathlessness in her voice. I loved how sensitive her neck was. “I’m already there.” Subtly, I ground my once-again-hard cock against her.
Who wouldn’t love a girl who’d set someone on fire for you?
The fact that no one had stepped in to defend me would speak volumes to these prats – Jared, Antonio, and the others all believed me capable of protecting myself. Still, I could feel Jared’s frustration, knew that he wanted to say something anyway, but a few cautioning pinches from me stopped him.
“I was wondering…You know when you act like this, do you feel much like those kids in the Harry Potter books that are prejudiced against muggles?”
“Oh I don’t know. Haven’t you heard what they say about us? Once you’ve had a Sventé, you’ll never go back.”
I gasped as if in awe of her. “Wow, how did you guess that so accurately? Do something else. What shape am I picturing in my head?”
Aw. “You lot are the best.” At Jared’s growl, I quickly added, “Of course you’re the best of them all.” He snorted.
No, I wouldn’t. “In other words, you want me to not give him a hard time about the overprotectiveness.” Evan’s smile was sheepish. I sighed. “Fine.” We all smiled as Jared returned with good ole Reub.
“I know that you used me, just like you use everyone else around you. I know that, to you, I was just a toy. I know that you didn’t Turn me to save me, or because you cared; you did it out of spite, just as you Turned my brother out of spite. That’s what I know.”
I shouldn’t ask, I know, but… “And if a second bite is delivered, what would that do?” Wes shrugged. “Merely cause excruciating, cry-wrenching pain, which is then soon followed by death.” Of course it did.
I sensed Jared’s amusement. “Don’t worry,” I said. “I’m not one of those really competitive people who take it too seriously.” The guys all snorted, knowing me too well.
“I mean it, baby, don’t expect any mercy. I’m going to beat your sexy little ass at this.” I patted his arm. “It’s sort of cute that you really believe that.”
when I noticed that he was staring. He did that a lot, never feeling uncomfortable as if it was totally normal to just stare at someone. I playfully snapped, “What?”
When he pulled back, he had the oddest expression on his face. “That’s not you touching my leg, is it?” I looked down the bed to see that Dexter had made his way from the living area to the bedroom and was now slithering his way up the bed. I giggled. “Maybe he’s starting to warm up to you.”
