“If I’m a demon, then you must be the devil.” It may be the corniest thing I’ve ever said. “Maybe I am,” he replies, very deeply. “And yet, here you are.”
He is power. Man. And strength. He is charm and desire and indestructible things.
“Do you love it?” I ask him. His eyes fall as he contemplates this. “Not as much as I used to. But the circus is my only love.” “What about your family?” I think of Katya and Luka and Timo. I can tell—just by the way he protects them—that there’s a tremendous amount of love there. He smiles. “Circus is family.”
His bedroom eyes are things made from sin.
“What does that mean?” I ask softly. “Myshka?” His eyes search mine, hypnotic, soulful. Ones that tether me here, to him. And his lips close over my cheek before drifting to my ear. “Little mouse.”
Timo licks his bottom lip and laughs. “You want me to be single, John?” This took a turn. I stare between them, my eyes pinging back and forth with intrigue. John puts the beer to his lips. “I’m out of your league, Timo.” “If you say so.”
“Don’t stare into his eyes!” John shouts to me. “Little parts of you will die inside!” He almost lifts my spirits. A smile stretches Timo’s beautiful features. “So you’re admitting to feeling something from me, John?!” John glares. “Death. I feel death!” Timo whistles, but I can’t hear the sound from the pop song. “That’s a strong feeling.”
His lips suddenly meet mine with force and urgency, his hands wrapping around my small frame like he’s wanted to hold me all night. My heart explodes. I explode, his tongue parting my lips in the fieriest kiss, one that grips my core. One that knocks my back into the shelves.
“But I realized something tonight.” His eyes hold so many painful, conflicting truths. Realities that I need to meet. “I realized that it’s too late. I distract you—you distract me. And since I don’t want to distance myself from you, there’s only one option.” His gaze flits to my lips, and he kisses me tenderly, my body winding tight.
“Am I a mistake—” “No, myshka. You’re just the unexpected, beautiful thing in my life.”
“In case I forget, know that I loved tonight, with you. No matter what happens from here.”
If his eyes are hell, his tongue is heaven, and I would gladly return.
“We’re not going to fit together.” “We are,” he says lowly. “In all ways.”
“So…” His dark brows tic up. I frown. “So…?” I repeat. “How do you two even work?” His face is still in that grimace. “Are you always on top?”
“Why are you so patient with me?” I whisper. “Because every part of me wants to take care of you.”
“And to do that, I’d slow down to your speed.” “And what’s your speed?” I ask. “Much faster.” He watches my reaction as he dips his hand beneath the band of my panties. My mouth opens in a heady breath. “Harder,” he says lowly. His fingers brush the inside of my thigh before he pulls off the fabric. “Deeper.” He peels the wet shirt off my arms, my lungs expanding in a strong breath.
“You’re going to come again, little mouse.” His breath tickles my ear. “Until I decide to come with you.”
“I’d help you every day so that you could see a better tomorrow. I will never give you less than that.”
Nikolai Kotova is the sum of his brothers and sister. And more. He is selfless, loyal, dedicated and wholly determined—the most responsible twenty-six-year-old, the most mature man. He is power and strength. But most importantly, he is love. And family.
“Whatever happens, just know that the parts of my life with you have been my favorite.”
“You once told me that there are things you can’t leave behind. You meant your family.” I point at the floor. “You meant Katya, and Luka, and Timo and all the people you love.” “You’re a part of my family, whether you realize it or not.”
“Here is my heart.” His thumb skims my neck. “It is full of love.”
“Choose me.” His lips rise, and the girls let out a series of awwwws. He removes his shirt fully, his body chiseled, sculpted—familiar. He reaches me, lifting me onto the bar so that our lips are parallel. My heart hammers, my pulse throbbing. A breath away, he whispers, “Every day.”
It’s a dream that I’m living. Every day. With him.
