“His name is Jace. We’ve been together for over two years. Someday he’s going to take me to Paris.” Tim took the photo and examined it wordlessly. He swallowed roughly. He was holding back tears! Ben instantly regretted his decision and cursed himself. “I guess I deserve this.” Tim’s chin was trembling.
did he think ben was just going to get back together with him??
“I tracked you down tonight in the hopes of seducing you, but instead the evening was a complete embarrassment.” “No, it wasn’t.”

Tim reached up and touched a lock of hair above Ben’s right ear. Then his fingers slid to the back of his head, gently taking hold before pulling Ben in for a kiss.

“About done?” Jace asked evenly.

“Hey,” he said to Jace. “It’s my fault. I grabbed Benjamin and started kissing him. He wasn’t even kissing back. Really. Please don’t blame him.” The apology might have been effective if Tim wasn’t grinning while delivering it. Jace punched Tim.

“I had a close call once.” “Close call?” “About six months ago. On a flight to Boston. We had a real nervous flyer, a younger guy. I’m not sure he was even eighteen, but he was attractive. Very attractive.”

“I would do anything to be with you,” Tim said, voice strained. “Yeah, I lied, but I don’t regret it. If that’s what it took to get you back, then it was worth it.”
okay you’re both terrible people and deserve to be together
“I’m going to kill myself,” Ryan bawled, heading for the door. “I’m going to kill myself and leave a note blaming it on you!”

“You might want us, but you don’t need us. You said I bring out the best in you, but all those wonderful things were already there, even before I came along. Live for yourself, Tim. Decorate the house with your paintings. Don’t hide them away. Don’t hide yourself away either. There’s a whole world out there waiting to see you. The real you. You’re so beautiful, and I don’t just mean your face or your body.”
“Please,” Jace said, his voice raspy. “I don’t want us to argue, not now, and I don’t want to die in a hospital.” “Jace.” “Please do this for me. I love you, Ben.”

He held him until his body ached with discomfort and his stomach grumbled with hunger, long after Jace had stopped breathing. When the last of the light had left the room, Ben took Samson and shut the door behind him.
