Sad because of who Almera could have been if his father allowed real medical treatment. And then sad to wonder about it, as though he’s betraying who Almera is, what a wonderful sunshine piece of happiness she is, by wishing she could have been someone else.

This hit somewhere personal for me, having a medically complicated child, wondering what she would have been like if she didn't end up with brain cancer that destroyed the kid she used to be, but also realizing how beautiful of a person she is and not wanting to change that for anything... I had to save this quote.
