My vices are the offshoots of an imposed loneliness that I hate; and my virtues would necessarily arise when I lived in harmony with a fellow man. I would feel the affection of another being and join the chain of existence and events from which I am now excluded.
Has this mind so full of thoughts, of magnificent and whimsical fantasies perished that formed a world whose existence depended on the life of its creator? Does it exist now only in my memory? No, it can not be; that body, so perfectly shaped, radiating beauty, has decomposed, but his spirit continues to encourage and visit his unfortunate friend.
Death. What that means, who tells your story
You called it that because it was full of dangers and threats; because with each new difficulty you had to renew your courage and strength; because danger and death surrounded you and you had to overcome both. This is why you called it glorious, because it was a worthy undertaking .
In a fit of mad enthusiasm I created a rational creature, and it was my duty to him to ensure all the happiness and well-being that I could give him. This was my obligation, but there was a higher one. My obligations to my fellow men should take priority, since they involved a greater proportion of happiness or misfortune. Driven by this belief , I refused, and did well, to create a companion for the first being. Seek happiness in peace and avoid ambition, even the apparently harmless one, to distinguish yourself by your scientific discoveries. But why did he talk or like that ?; I have seen my hopes dashed, but another can triumph.
"That is my victim too," he exclaimed; with his death [100] I consume my crimes. The horrible drama of my existence comes to an end. Frankenstein! Generous and self-sacrificing man! What is the use of begging your forgiveness now? You, whom I ruthlessly destroyed, taking from you everything you loved. It is cold!; he cannot answer me.
I love that this shows the humanity of the creature, how he isn't just some soulless creature who craves destruction. He is more akin to a child throwing a tantrum then a crass murder.
But that's how it is; the fallen angel turns into a perfidious demon. But even that enemy of God and men had friends and companions in his desolation; I am completely alone.
But these are virtuous and pure beings. I, the unhappy, the outlaw , am abortion, created to be kicked, beaten, rejected. Even now my blood burns under the memory of this injustice.
Destroyed as you were, my sufferings were their peer to yours, because the claw of remorse will not stop delving into my wounds until death closes them forever.
