Rose scoffs from her chair. “I got rid of my middle name because I hated it, not so we can name our child Magdala.” “Rose Calloway Cobalt,” Connor says her full name, ditching Magdala and replacing it with Calloway. No hyphenation. She’s been Cobalt since she married Connor. “Like Lo said, this is pretend. I can name our pretend daughter whatever I want.”
In the back of Connor’s limo. Rose is having a baby.
“I believe in attraction between people. To me, heterosexuality, homosexuality, bisexuality—they’re just terms and constructs that people have built over the years.” He meets my eyes. “Like boxes that we have to fit in. I don’t fit into a box, Lo. I don’t want to fit in one.”
I fell in love with Lo like a little girl opening her heart to magic. It always seemed surreal until the moment it became true.
My fiancé is the sexiest person on earth. Fact. It’s a biased fact, but many people would agree with me if they had my view.
Life is a big shitty bag of trial and error. And the error always seems to come at someone’s expense.

Lily and I—we may have started our relationship as pretend. But for as long as I can remember, our love has always been real.
