“Fern,” he said, my name jarring in the quiet room. I peeked at him, then inhaled a deep breath. Okay, I thought. Here goes nothing. Releasing it, I sat up, then immediately felt my eyes widen. “Oh, wow.” The lighting might have been dim, but I could see enough, and I crawled down the bed to his side to take a closer look.
