Gwen laughed as she pointed to an increasingly degenerating photo of their father with a huge afro and an aggressively popped collar.
“Look at the fucking view,” she said, squirming under his touch. Looking at her, he said, “I am.” She rolled her eyes. “Pfft. I know you can do better than that corny ass line.”
“He refuses to remember what anyone in the family under the age of forty does for a living. He assumes we’re all still in school.”
The woman seated next to him tapped his shoulder. “Here,” she said, holding out a wrapped hard candy. “To pass the time.”
Ms. Edie let out a long-suffering sigh.
Duncan studied his cue cards and said, “Good afternoon, distinguished guests…and Uncle Peter.”
