I enjoyed this book so much, It’s a mixture between sweet and sexy. The fake dating trope in this book gave me To All The Boys Vibes, they’re not similar in a lot of things but the vibes were similar. And I think if you loved To All The Boys and want the adult version of it you’ll love this book.

I loved the two main characters, I related to them a lot. Retta is such a strong independent woman and I related to her in a lot of things, and she was such a sweet person to everyone. Duncan is a ci
Whilst this story was cute and enjoyable I wanted more? More from the characters in particular. I wish there was a bit more focus on their past since that shaped their present quite a bit. More of the fake-dating aspect and all the antics that it could have included to make it more playful and tense.

It wasn't bad, it wasn't great. Just okay.

When Retta Majors learns that her ex and her cousin are going to get married soon, she knows everyone will expect her not to go. But Retta has already told her family that she is in love and has an amazing caring boyfriend, so she has no choice but to go to the wedding with her boyfriend. The problem however, is that the “boyfriend” does not exist and Retta had only told her family the lie to stop them from pestering her about getting into a relationship. Now, Retta must

(sorry not sorry 😈)

The premise could have been pretty awks - bringing a fake date to a family wedding with such a twist but I gotta admit I enjoyed how this plays out. Yes I'm just as shocked as you are given my usual grumpy grinch'ness🙊
Sure their "get to know each other"/interview type thing spiralled into an almost movie mashup of a cute date montage which could have been a smidge OTT 🙈 Yet it still worked alongside the initial meet cute, maybe beca

what do you do when you find out your cousin is marrying your ex-boyfriend?? first send a two-minute voicemail panicking to your best friend, second look for a fake boyfriend to go with you to the wedding of course!

When Retta finds out about the wedding she starts to go on blind dates to try to find someone before the wedding but when none of them work out, she decides to ask her next-door work neighbor to be her fake boyfriend in exchange for some parking spots and her scone recipe.

I am putting this book in my 2020 favorites!! It just has everything I love about a romance novel; great banter, meet cute, amazing characters, steam, food, chemistry, awkward moments, happy ending, swoony hero & marvelous heroine.

A breath of fresh air. Loved the set up and the characters. Loved the side plot with their hero's parents. A really refreshing take on the fake relationship trope with a couple of kind funny people who are really nice to each other. Good stuff. ...more

Such a soft romance. The baker romances really own the pink aesthetic!!! Third one in a row, I'm still in love with baking-related scenes in my romances. You know me, I'm a sucker for cakes, cupcakes and any type of sweet baked good. And this one has some PRETTY DELICIOUS ONES.

Make a Scene is about Retta and Duncan. Retta's cousin is getting married, and to whom you may ask? She's marrying Retta's ex. Everyone in her family is throwing looks at her, they're worried about her, they are all think

New to me author, with a lively style and a good eye for character. I liked Retta and Duncan a lot--particularly Duncan, a boxing gym owner, who is obviously physically imposing and powerful but doesn't at all use his physicality to be threatening, accidentally or deliberately. Non toxic masculinity for the win. They're very likeable and make a good pair with virtually no conflict and quite a picaresque plot (that's not a criticism, I was reading these two nice people learning one another and bo ...more

This was a sweet fake-dating romance, overall. However, I felt disconnected from the writing and the characters. There were transition scenes that were jarring. The emotional intensity I look for in a fake-dating romance was missing for me. It's still cute though and perfect if you're in the mood for a quick read.

Everything I wanted in a romanceeee

I really love the cute interactions between Duncan and Retra. And yes I want more but I can't wait to see Anthony's story too!

This romance definitely takes time building the relationship which I love but if you want something quick - this ain't it!

This book just warmed my heart

Featuring one of my favourite tropes in romance, the fake dating arrangement between Retta and Duncan was absolutely adorable. Having neighbouring businesses—a bakery and a gym—a slight misunderstanding ignites a deal between them, and the chemistry was unreal!

With the wedding approaching between her ex-boyfriend and cousin, Retta hopes to quash any sense of pity from her family by having Duncan at her side. With Duncan dealing with his own negative perception of relationships, I loved seeing th

1) This cover!!!! OMG! Love it so much and was definitely the only reason I decided to pick it up.
And I’m so gosh darn happy I did!
2) so freaking cute!!! Everything was just delightful. So glad I took a chance on this one.

it was cute and even tho the angst was stupid, it was at least consistent with characterisations, it just happened way too late for me to feel like the ending was anything other than rushed

This story was equal parts funny and steamy. I love stories that are so naturally Black, so I appreciated Retta using eco-styler gel and wearing a scarf to bed. Those little touches just added a lot to the story for me.

I love when two characters are in denial about liking each other and the sexual tension is palpable, so Retta and Duncan were great main characters, and it was so funny to watch the way their relationship grew. Retta had to deal with the expectations of her family and s

usually, i'd write a more extensive review, but i don't have much to say on this book. i didn't enjoy it as much as i hoped i would for a few reasons: one, i was excited to read this book because of the fake dating aspect of it, but their fake dating ended really quickly. (or maybe i just read it wrong?) but it felt like they were told each other "actually, i like you for real" really early on in the book, so i didn't see the point in advertising the fake da

Make a Scene was such a fun read, and I absolutely adored it. Kind of like the book version of a hallmark movie, it was fun and cheesy, and such an easy read. Also, how beautiful is that cover?! I'm obsessed.

Retta was just the cutest, I adored her - and I loved seeing hair care mentioned in a book so casually!! Also, this sounds kind of silly, but I loved seeing a tall mc - the mcs in romances tend to be small, and the 'mean girls' tend to be tall, so it's nice to see a tall gal living her best

A predictable but very quick and fun read! If you enjoyed Take a Hint, Dani Brown, you'll enjoy Make a Scene.

After Retta's ex-boyfriend becomes engaged to her cousin, she's on a mission to find the perfect fake boyfriend to be her wedding date and he comes along in the form of her new work neighbour, Duncan.

As always with this trope, the lines between faking and reality become quickly blurred and (much like in Dani Brown) we have to endure the predictable final-act break up because both characte

If you’re looking for a cute and sexy fake dating romance, look no further. MAKE A SCENE by Mimi Grace is available today!
Retta can’t show up to her cousins wedding without a date. Really, she can’t. Because her cousin is marrying her ex boyfriend, and everyone in her family is gossiping about whether or not she will show up. When she strikes up a deal with Duncan, the man who owns the gym next door to her bakery, she thinks her problems are solved! But it brings up a new problem: her attractio

I want to start by saying that the one thing I really liked about this story is the fact that both main characters didn't have some type of tragic past. They both thought about their past as it shaped their future but they didn't exactly dwell on it in a way that it gets drawn out and becomes integral to the overall romance. Retta is a bakery chef and Duncan is a boxing trainer. They have storefronts side by side to each other and the end up interacting because of the parking situation. They end ...more

“as my official, very real boyfriend you should know I’ll need one to two of your hoodies, your Netflix login information, and a ride until I get my car back. Oh, and food.”

I am always in for fake dating shenanigans at weddings, it’s probably one of my favorite fake dating scenarios.

It starts off really strong with Retta and Duncan having such a funny and relatable meet cute and it keeps going strong because they actually hang out together before the wedding and the prete

Loved this book!! Retta’s ex is marrying her cousin and she is determined to show her family that she is absolutely fine with it. Best way to do that is to bring a boyfriend to the engagement party and wedding, right? No problem - she just needs to find one quickly.

When she meets Duncan, the owner of the new gym next to her bakery, she sees an opportunity. Duncan agrees and their fake relationship begins.

I loved this book - Duncan is definitely firmly in book boyfriend category and I’m excited

Super cute! I first read Mimi Grace’s ALONG FOR THE RIDE in July and immediately pre-ordered MAKE A SCENE. It didn’t disappoint. I’m finding that I really enjoy stories that follow entrepreneurs, especially those in the food industry lol, and the banter and evolving relationship between Betta and Duncan was enthralling and expertly written. I look forward to reading more from Mimi Grace in the future.
