“You can want me, but you can never have me. Watch your back, little trickster.”
“I go so fucking crazy around you, Raine. You’re no good for me. I don’t trust myself when I’m around you.” His voice grew even lower. “I don’t like who I am around you.”
“It wasn’t me. Fuck, Raine. You drive me insane, but I wouldn’t do that.”
Hope was a dangerous thing, as I soon found out. Everything had changed, but nothing had changed.
His lips were suddenly on mine, and I was gone. I wound my arms more tightly around his neck, kissing him back with everything I had. “I’m sorry. So sorry. I want you. I want to be with you. Only you.” His words were quiet but spoken with so much intensity that I had no doubt he meant them.
I let out a shaky breath. “Is this real? Are-are you serious?” “Baby, look at where we are right now. I just claimed you in the most public way I could think of. If that doesn’t tell you that I’m serious about this, I don’t know what will.”
“Yeah. Watching their team captain kiss the fuck out of his girlfriend.”
“You came,” she choked out. “You came for me.” “Always.”
“I won’t lose you. Plenty of people make long distance work. We can do it. You’re not just a fling to me, Raine.”
