The original Monty Python TV show was hamstrung by constraints. It was short, it had a tiny budget, it had nothing but an ensemble cast, it was shot in black and white, and it had virtually no promotion. But, in fact, the very thing the show had going for it was the constraints. Because expectations were so low, the cast and writers had very little oversight.
