But the what, when, and how of organising it all was overwhelming him.
How can you possibly organize the battle without consulting with the ally on their movements? Speaking of, it seems like Lothar is planning a marriage alliance, and not a war, with Hest. Maybe he’s double crossed Eirik to ultimately kill Jael.
It was the sort of shudder usually followed by an urge to grip her sword, to feel the comfort it provided when she felt under threat. And right now, for some reason, Jael felt in danger.
Because you’re an idiot. You forgot you had a stalker who is an enemy and wants your downfall, especially after you threatened and humiliated him. Idiot.
‘I don’t want you to die!’ Eadmund rasped, his breath ragged, tears in his eyes. ‘I don’t want you to die!’ he sobbed. ‘Please, please don’t drink that wine, Melaena! Please...’
So he’s been buried in guilt, not grief, for the last 7 years? Did he know Evaine poisoned her or did he poison her himself?
‘They were just dreams, Eadmund,’ Jael said, trying to calm him down. ‘You aren’t a dreamer, so they were just dreams. But you’re awake now. You have to let them go. You’re not there anymore. You came back.’
But, they were likely true so don’t have him dismiss them. The important thing now is to figure out who poisoned her wine, but not his.
She pushed him backwards, towards the bed and they fumbled their way onto the furs, quickly, awkwardly, rushing to remove their clothes despite the chill of the cottage.
I’m sure both his breath and body stinks considering he was drunk when they found him 3-4 days ago and haven’t bathed him at all since then… ew
She was going to have to lead him there slowly, Edela realised. ‘The men that came to Tuura that night were looking for Jael. They killed Evva, thinking she was Jael.
No, you just opened the door to your daughter finding out her child was killed on accident. There was no need to repeat all of that, in detail, like he didn’t know. A summary of it would have sufficed for a recap.
‘I can’t help you, Edela. I just can’t.’ Edela sighed, rubbing the tears out of her eyes, cursing her dreams for only ever giving her half a story. If Aleksander couldn’t help her, who could?
Help her what? She hasn’t even asked for anything! He’s saying he can’t help her and she’s accepting that he can’t be of any assistance… but we don’t even know what she needs!
He was here to help Jael, but how was he going to get past the fact that Edela believed his mother responsible for sending those men to Tuura? He couldn’t. It was as simple as that. He’d have to go back to Andala now, leave Edela to find her own way home after she’d found out what she needed to.
