“Then why is trust still an issue?” “Forgiveness means giving up my anger at your actions. It doesn’t mean there are no consequences to your actions,”
Excellent! I think people forget this very thing. When a crime is committed the criminal must pay the consequences even if the victim forgives him/her. This is not always the case and is unfair not only for the victim but for the criminal. How can the criminal pay restitution and meet the price of justice thus being worthy of forgiveness if he/she is able to somehow avoid the consequences of their actions? It also demeans the victim making him/her feel victimized all over again. Even Jesus Christ , who with grace forgives our sins and paid the price for justice does not rescue us from the earthly consequences of our actions. As a former school teacher I have had parents who have done there best to protect their child from the consequences of his/her actions. I have followed these children. Without exception these children have had problems all throughout their school years to the point of spending time in juvenile hall. They have learned to never accept responsibility for their actions and that the world and everything in it is theirs. To protect is to let them accept responsibility and the consequences. Teach them both so they know how to make good decisions. I really loved this quote, can you tell?
