“I assigned Rupert the task of watching several human chick flick movies. He said this method usually returned wayward males into the good graces of their significant others.”
“Any time spent with you is never a waste.”
“So, what, you’re moving in?” I asked. Killian perked. “That’s an option?”
I turned to Celestina. “Please allow me to express my congratulations on becoming the new Drake Family Elder.”
“I’m talking about you—” he pointed a finger at Killian, “and you—” he moved his finger and stabbed it at me. “Being so wrapped up in each other you ignore me!”
“I’m not going to let go of you again,” Killian said. “So why do we keep dancing around whatever we are?”
“I want everything,” he said. “Whatever you’ll give me. If that means friendship, we can stay there. But it seems to me you’re willing for more…”
I wandered up to the plate of fruit, noticing it contained all my favorites.
“No. You taste like sunlight. I didn’t know how much I’ve missed it—how it used to feel. Now it just dulls the senses…You let me experience something I’d forgotten, something I thought I’d never have again.”
“Thank you, Killian.” My heart brimmed with joy, my body still felt blissfully cool, and I’m sure I grinned like a moron as I lightly brushed my lips against Killian’s. “I love you.”
That’s what she was doing, guarding me.
If someone attacked the room, she’d feel it, and she was ready for them. And in that instant, I knew she was the one.
“You’re my One,” Killian said bluntly. “You’re my sun when I shouldn’t be allowed any. I will never love another like I love you, and I’ll never trust another the way I trust you.” Killian held out a tiny black jewelry box. “So I thought we should make things permanent.”
“Wait, forever?” “Ahhh, yes. I’ve been meaning to tell you about that.” Killian beamed down at me. “You’re probably going to live as long as I do.” “WHAT?”
