I gave him a flabbergasted look. “So why haven’t you said anything? Why haven’t you tried to stop her?” “Why haven’t you?” he shot back. I rubbed my lips together, unable to meet his eyes. “You’re the one who’s friends with her. Anyway, I think you should’ve been more careful picking your friends. Because they clearly don’t give a shit about you.”
We stared at the two sticks. Then he whispered low enough for only me to hear. “I don’t want it to be me. But I sure as hell will be sorry if it’s you, Red.”
