I probably should have fought him harder over the divorce settlement—plenty of people had told me so—but at the end I’d been exhausted. I’d wanted it to be over. And while I understood I could take him to court over nonpayment of child support, I didn’t want to put the kids through that after they’d already been through so much.
Not this, again! Why is this such a common thing in romance? It means that your character is stupid or weak. Or both.
