Parents who monitored and restricted their daughters’ eating had daughters who: (a) reported significantly more emotional eating and (b) were less inclined to eat for physical reasons of hunger and satiety. The association was different for the male college students. Parents who recollected restriction of their son’s food intake did not report higher emotional eating. This might be due to the difference of social pressure for women to conform to the thin ideal.
