Whenever someone looked at me, they saw whatever face they believed the most beautiful. Like the nightmares that came at night, we were meant to be seductive. We were designed to lure our victims in. Then, when it was too late to draw back, we struck.
“I wish to make a bargain, Fortuna Sworn,”
“Hell is empty, and all the devils are here.”
“You trade in edicts and secrets; mine is nightmares and terror. Nothing I see will give me a second’s pause, faerie.”
I couldn’t beat them as a Nightmare. But maybe I could as a queen.
I was going to obliterate this Court from the inside out. And I’d do it wearing the crown they put on me.
