No one was hurt, but Harley has refused full-time security up until now because he had always felt safe here. That asshole took that away from him, so it doesn’t matter that he wasn’t actually hurt.”
“Brix? As in built like a brick shithouse?” Fitting. The other guy scoffs. “Nah, as in dumb as bricks.”
doing this to fuck with Brix?” “Me? Never. I’m totally serious and professional at all times.” I don’t believe him in the slightest. “Mmhmm.”
“You’re either really good at manipulation or terrible at it because I can see right through your act, but I still want to do it.”
“Oh, you sweet summer child. You think my trust issues come from the break-in? I’ve had trust issues since my momager took every cent of money I earned before I was eighteen. They got worse when the person I thought was the love of my life told me I was someone to fill the loneliness while on tour. Everyone uses me for something, only now, we have the added potential for homicide. Fun times.”
“Please.” He lifts his, and holy forking fucknuggets. He has abs on top of his abs. Super abs. They could be their own superhero and wear their own cape.
“Okay, seriously. What kind of ‘security firm’ does Gideon’s cousin run?” I’m met with more laughter.
I’ve been wondering if Gideon has said anything to Harley about Mike Bravo and what we stand for, but I’ve gotten the impression that Harley thinks I’m straight.
“You’re valid, Harley.”
Brix smiles triumphantly. “You hate me because I pointed out you’re unhappy?” “Yes! Who does that? Let me live in my oblivious depression.”
There’s a lot of reading between the lines with Dad. All he wants is for me to be happy. I’d be happier if I could do more for him.
What I can’t work out is how Webber found us. The answer is right there, I know it. What the fuck am I missing?
My eyes widen. “Wait … MB. Motherfucking badasses? That’s what Mike Bravo stands for?”
“Seriously, what did you do?” “Nothing!” He coughs and mutters something about cyber terrorism. Best. Boss. Ever.
Trav’s face takes on an expression that’s part sympathy, part smugness, and part annoyance. “Did you know Samuel Reins was my commanding officer before I became a Ranger?” My dad … was Trav’s superior? “You really think the timing on your Mike Bravo offer was a coincidence?”
“You want to turn this room into a studio or something?” I ask. “No. I want to turn this into your father’s room.”
