“Sweet to meet you, Katie. I’m Zane.” He gave her his ultra-intense, ice-blue-eyed Viking stare down;
“Don’t mind Zane. He’s like that with everyone.” Not everyone. Just women he wanted to fuck.
“You need to grab this moment by the balls. Take your fucking life back, babe.”
It was either tell him to fuck off or have him hanging around, throwing his fuck-me stares at Katie.
The song, and Katie Bloom in my lap, kinda made this whole shoot worth it.
As the lyrics kicked in I sang them to her softly, letting my breath tickle her skin as I almost-kissed her.
No actual kissing. Just a big fucking tease.
She tried to break the gaze, but I grabbed her chin and held her.
Call me immature, but yeah, I was that brat at school who pulled the hair of the girl I had a crush on.
a silent battle over who could irritate the other into more discomfort, or in my case, increasing horniness.
To my frustration, she was quickly winning.
A rock star was sitting on the stairs to the front porch of my sister’s house.
“I thought Stella’s was the best.” “That’s because you haven’t tasted mine.” “I’d be happy to taste your pie, babe.”
“I’m here to ask you to come on tour with me.”
“As my girlfriend,” he added.
There’s a saying, you’re only as big as your last album. Or these days you could say your last single.
you and me together, we sell.”
“I was just about to offer Katie fifty grand to come on tour with me for six weeks.
Apparently I had some kind of allergy to other people having a high-stakes salary negotiation over me.
“You look angelic,” he said, getting to his feet. “All silhouetted by the sun like that.”
The thought of him paying me for tonight’s date made me feel like an escort, and I couldn’t stomach it.
Some girls need a little dick.” “I thought it was a big dick. See? We need to get our story straight.”
“Of course. Just wrote a new song about you that I’m gonna sing on tour. It’s called ‘New Girl.’”
“No one really cares who I’m fucking, Katie,” he said. As we parked at the valet stand, his dark eyes locked on mine. “Not for more than five minutes. Jesse Mayes in love, that’s the story.”
“Who’s this guy who would leave you here by yourself?” “Uh, Jesse Mayes?”
Her red lips were parted in stunned horror. I turned to look at what she was staring at, but she grabbed my arm to stop me.
oh. My. God. It was Josh. My ex-fiancé, Josh.
“He owns the fucking bar,”
My ex-fiancé, tall, blond and entitled, strolled into the ladies’ room. Then he shut the door and flipped the lock.
“Just want to remind you how good we are together, sweetheart.”
“Call me old-fashioned, but I guess I figure when you walk out on your bride, apologizing is something better done face-to-face.”
“And like I tried to tell you, I regret what I did.”
“If you just give me a chance to show you…” And with that, he planted a kiss on me.
I stalked past him, heart pounding, shoving his hand away as he made a grab for me again—and found Jesse Mayes standing in the hall, staring at us.
Jesse flexed his right hand, then made a fist. His gaze locked on me. “You alright?” “She’s great,” Josh answered for me. “Aren’t you, babe?”
“The hotel’s a few blocks away,” he said, gently but firmly. “You’re exhausted, sweetheart.”
“You looked a little rough when you left the party. I wanted to make sure you were okay.”
“Luckily, I saw you from the lobby.” His gaze slid down over my body, briefly. “That red dress is like a beacon.”
You’re sleeping over here, then I am too. I’m gonna fake girlfriend the shit out of this joint. Up to you, babe.
And damn if I didn’t like that about her even more now than I did then. Which was a lot. Enough to kiss her and send her a cherry pie afterward like some idiot with a crush.
I’ve never had a girl do the Cinderella dash on me. Kind of made me feel like Prince Charming.” In truth, I’d been more than a little disappointed to wake up and find her gone.
