Our friendship traveled many paths with interesting stops for things like piercings and tattoos.
We crossed a line because I had a vagina and he had a penis. Just because you can … doesn’t mean you should. Wise words I learned a little too late.
When you loved someone—truly loved them—you didn’t take their smile. People with broken souls didn’t have real smiles. They grimaced from the broken pieces of their soul impaling their heart. I didn’t think he actually broke her soul, but I felt certain he was suffocating it with his own selfishness.
“I wouldn’t change a thing.” Those were Madeline’s last words.
That was what we did. We grieved for the living, for those who still felt the pain, for those who would spend the rest of their lives desperately missing the ones who left us behind.
