“How much longer are you going to keep fighting this, Grus?” Max asked irritably. “Whatever do you mean?” “I mean,” Max stepped closer to her and reached out to brush her hair back over her shoulder. “That I can feel exactly how much you like me whenever you let that shield of yours slip, but I just can’t figure out what it is that’s holding you back.” Silence fell between all of us, and Geraldine raised her chin and set her jaw as she fixed her gaze on Max. “You may find it hard to believe, but a true lady won’t just roll over and accept a merciless cad for a suitor just because he manages to

“What’s the matter, Darius? Afraid I’ll kick your ass and make you look like a little bitch in front of everyone?” I taunted, turning to look up into his black-ringed eyes. His gaze slid over me slowly and heat followed the path of his eyes over every inch of my flesh that they caressed. “Hardly.” “Then what’s the problem?” I demanded. He hesitated for a long moment then shrugged. “I don’t want to hurt you.” My lips parted at that declaration and the sincerity of those words echoed deep down into me with a truth I couldn’t deny.
“Come on, Dragon boy,” I taunted, and I suddenly realised that I’d actually missed his usual challenges and teasing comments. I wanted him to bite back at me, needed him to stand up to my shit and call me out on my crap.
אולי כי את לא באמת שונאת אותו ומעולם לא שנאת ואמרת לו לא סתם כי את קטנונית ילדותית ובלתי נסבלת? התשובה היא כן .
“Are you still going easy on me, Darius?” I growled as I looked down at him from my position straddling him. “I told you, I’m not going to hurt you again, Roxy,” he replied as he continued to burn my earth magic away as fast as I could conjure it. “Don’t pretend you don’t want to,” I pushed. “You must hate me for saying no.” Darius growled, but he still didn’t attack me. “I don’t hate you.” “More fool you then.” I tried to push off of him, but he caught my thighs, holding me in place with a dangerous snarl as the clouds continued to darken overhead.
“And then you’ll have to decide if you want to fight back before I kick your ass or just take your beating like a good little bitch.” “Maybe I’ll take the beating,” he said in a low growl as he moved so close to me that our chests were almost touching.
“I can’t believe he’s actually admitting I beat him at something,” I said slowly. That just seemed so unDarius.
“He was falling in love with you, and you ripped his heart out,” Gabriel said quietly. “There is no greater pain in this world than that. Believe me. I know. I’ve lived it.”
He never said that to me. Never told me-” “He told you. You just didn’t want to hear it,” Gabriel interrupted. “I don’t want to hear this,” I snapped, getting to my feet as the tears threatened to fall. “I don’t have to hear it.” “Yes, you do,” Gabriel growled, standing too. “Because you need to accept that you’re to blame in this too. You both failed the tests the stars set you-” “I don’t-” “In the throne room, when you were with him there, he told you, as clearly as I’m telling you now that he wanted you, he said he wanted to claim you as his own, he said he wanted everything from you, that

“Darius isn’t his father,” she breathed.
“You…I’m free,” Catalina gasped, releasing her grip on me as she backed up, her hands clasping her chest as a radiant smile captured her full lips. “Free of what?” “The Dark Coercion Lionel placed on me…each and every command he ever bound me with is just…gone.”
“Lionel is up to something. I don’t know what, but it’s to do with Xavier and his Order, I’m afraid of the lengths he’ll go to to keep this secret hidden.”
“I managed to put some protection in place for him before, but Lionel is working tirelessly to undo it. Once he figures out how to negate what I’ve done, I don’t know how much time Xavier will have left. Lionel won’t ever allow knowledge of his true Order to be discovered. I have to find a way to get him out of that house and hide him. Please, swear to me you won’t tell anyone that you freed me from his Dark Coercion.”
“I wish he could have done enough to win your love, Roxanya.”
Paying up didn’t require a custom paint job with the Gemini constellation inlaid in diamonds over the engine, but fuck if I was going to point that out. His trust fund took a serious hit for that beauty for sure.
“Because if we’re alone together, the stars cause thunderstorms and earthquakes and Griffins to fall from the damn sky between us and fuck knows what else to force us apart, asshole.”
Not just any girl. Mildred fucking Canopus. Darius’s second cousin and fiancé. She was built with the full size of a male Dragon shifter, her broad, muscular frame damn near rivalling my own.
“I can handle the research,” he said. “But what I need you three to do is help him win Tory over. Because there’s no point in me finding a way to make the stars change their minds and give them another chance if she still doesn’t want him.” “She does want him,” I growled. “I can feel the heat between them from a mile off.” “She might want to fuck him, but she doesn’t want to love him,” Seth said darkly. “And that’s the problem, isn’t it?” “How are we supposed to make her love him?” I asked.
“You want us to vow to it?” Seth asked in amusement. “Yeah, I do. I want us all to swear we will do everything in our power to overcome the odds for the sake of our brother. So, what do you say?” Orion asked. “Hell yes,” Cal agreed,
“Heat with stardust. Permeate. Forge. Cool,” I whispered and glanced up excitedly. “It’s instructions,” Diego said with a look of awe. “Well, whoever wrote it isn’t winning the instructions of the year awards,” Tory said. “Who needs an indestructible cup anyway?”
“Sofia, you’re like eighty percent more kinky than I would have pegged you for,” Tory laughed.
“Assholes! Despite the grunge hair Capella is sporting and the fucking worst mohawk of the century Rigel seems to think is cool, this is not a fucking mosh pit at some prissy indie rock gig. So get your asses up and start fighting like Fae or you’ll all be in detention for the rest of the week.”
“I…you mean I can talk about my Order now?” Xavier asked. “I can actually tell people about it if I wanted to?” “He Dark Coerced you not to tell anyone you were a Pegasus?” I asked, my gut lurching at that idea. “Yeah, well, if he could Coerce me never to shift again, I’m sure he’d have done it, but as that’s something I can’t always control I guess he couldn’t.”
“Do you know what you’ve done?” Darius snarled. “Father could kill Xavier for this! He could-” “He won’t,” I snapped angrily. “He can’t. Don’t you see that? The only power he held over Xavier was in keeping his real Order form a secret. Now everyone knows, he’s free. Killing him wouldn’t change the truth. And he can’t very well alienate every Pegasus in Solaria by making his Orderist bullshit public knowledge. He’ll have to let Xavier leave the house, join a herd, fly.” Darius was staring at me like he didn’t know whether to kill me or kiss me and as my gaze fell on his mouth, I found myself

“Do you trust me?” I asked, my fingers shifting on his skin just enough to draw his attention. “Why?” “I want to try something. Something I did for your mother. But you’ll have to stay still while I do it.”
“I trust you,” he growled,
I gasped as I burned through the final one, my knees buckling as I fell against him, but he caught me before I could hit the ground. “You…” Darius lifted me into his arms, staring at me with wide eyes like he didn’t even have words to explain what I’d just done for him.
Thunder crashed through the sky overhead and as I looked up above Darius’s head, I realised we were being sheltered from the storm by a huge air shield. Lightning slammed from the sky, crashing into it and Seth cursed as he just managed to take the brunt of the blow with his magic. “Put me down,” I murmured. “You can’t even stand,” Darius snarled.
“She…I think she…but I don’t understand how-” “Phoenix fire burns through bullshit,” I supplied. “I just released him from every Dark Coercion spell Lionel has ever placed on him.”
“Thank you, Roxy,” Darius breathed and the look he was giving me made my heart do a weird squeezing kind of thing as I bit down on my bottom lip.
“No fucking way!” I pointed an accusing finger. “I swear to the stars, Caleb Altair, if you’re screwing with me-” He slapped the ticket into my palm. “I bought over three hundred thousand lottery tickets,” he said with a simple shrug like it meant nothing. “In fact, I’ve been buying that many every year since you lamented on your sixteenth birthday that you’ll never get to stick your dick in a moon crater. Figured it had to pay off eventually.” “You did this for me?” I choked out the words and he shrugged again. “The moon’s your favourite thing in the world, man. And I never know what to buy

I knew this wasn’t natural for him, he wasn’t programmed to share like this, but he was clearly willing to push against his instincts for this chance to be with me and my heart beat harder just thinking of that.
“You can’t tell me you don’t feel that when we’re together. The way my heart pounds, my soul burns, my whole body aches…I know you feel it too,” he breathed, catching my cheek in his rough palm and forcing my eyes up to meet his, the black rings in them taunting me with the choice I’d made. “Why did you fight it before?” I looked into his eyes for a long moment, pain scorching through my chest. “Because I’m almost as afraid of this feeling as I am of you,”
“We were made for each other, Roxy,” Darius growled,
“I know I don’t deserve you, Roxy. But I don’t think I can give you up even though I know that’s true,” Darius breathed against my lips and a tear slid down my cheek.
