“Is that your girlfriend, sir? I hope she knows her way around your banana.”
“Sir?” I called and he looked over, raising a brow. “Can Tory have another peach?” He headed to his desk, picking up another one and shooting over to Tory's desk at high speed. “HERE YOU GO, MISS VEGA!” he boomed and she covered her whole head with her arms. “Whhhy?” she moaned. I couldn't fight a laugh and Orion threw me a wink, remaining where he was.
The fruit pinged off of my desk as air exploded from my palm and it smacked right into the centre of the board, bursting into a cascade of orange pulp. “Woops,” I breathed while Tory fell apart beside me. “Oh my god, Darcy, do not try that on yourself,” she laughed.
“Could you just look away or something?” I ushered him back and his brows lifted in surprise. “No, I'm happy right here.” He smiled cruelly and I clenched my jaw. Is this because I didn't reply to your messages again, Professor Unprofessional?
“You didn't reply to my message,” he said and a smile pulled at my mouth. “Is that your new catchphrase?” I asked airily, placing the can down.
“You're supposed to fight back,” he growled. “I will if you try to bite me, but that's not what you want.” I turned in his arms, gazing up at him under my lashes as my heart fell into a rampant beat. “Is it?” He swallowed and his Adam's apple rose and fell. “The Lunar Eclipse is approaching. All Fae act crazy when that happens. I can't be blamed.” A smile danced around the corners of his mouth, revealing the dimple in his right cheek.
“And what would your girlfriend think?” I gave him a stern expression, my gut knotting tightly as I waited for his response to that. “What girlfriend?” he asked lightly. “Francesca,” I said, trying to step away from him but he held on tight. He grinned wickedly. “You're jealous.”
“I'm going to go now,” I said with about as much conviction as he’d used. “Are you?” he asked, his free hand sliding around my waist, his fingers curling, reeling me in as he stepped further between my legs.
“If you don't kiss me I'll go mad,” his voice rumbled through his chest and a magnetic heat tugged me toward him.
“Then I guess I’ll just have to bite you here.” He pushed my hair back over my shoulder and touched his lips to my throat. The contact made my skin tingle and I bit my lip. He kissed my neck, shifting an inch higher and kissing me again.
As I glanced over at the Heirs’ couch, I found Darius looking right back at me and my heart leapt in surprise. I couldn’t really figure out the look he was giving me but something about it made me feel uncomfortable.
He kissed me slowly, his lips moving against mine in an achingly soft dance. He pressed me back, parting my lips gently and pushing his tongue into my mouth to stroke across mine. A groan of longing escaped me as I gave myself to the kiss, his hand moving to cup my cheek as he pulled me closer.
“Please,” I moaned, needing him to put me out of my agony and with one final drag of his tongue, stars burst before my eyes and his name spilled from my lips. Caleb got to his feet, gripping my waist and pinning me to the tree as he kissed me, hard. “You are so fucking hot, Tory,” he growled, kissing me again.
I leaned closer to him as I rubbed against him a few times, drawing a growl of desire from his lips. “Maybe then I’ll return the favour.”
“Well let’s hope this isn’t a prediction,” I said with an exaggerated shudder. “The last thing I need is a little vampire baby nipping at my ankles.”
I shrugged, not wanting to admit that Darius was actually the one who’d rattled me.
Lance: Reading... I'm sure I don't need to remind you to delete that picture. What are you doing? (photographic answers are highly encouraged)
Lance: Fine. Seeing another guy's hands on you makes me want to rip out their eyes so they never get to look at you again.
“Blue,” I answered his ongoing question on a breath that rose before me in a cloud of vapour, knowing that it meant far more than that. That I'd just told him I wanted him. And in turn, agreed to this dangerous affair.
“Actually… I think I'd better go.” Before I could take another step, Orion shot in front of me in a blur, crowding me in against the couch. He had two tumblers of water in his hand and held one out for me. “No,” he demanded. “Stay.”
“No.” “Is that all you can say now?” I asked, growing frustrated as he lifted his head and slid his hand onto my cheek, his fingers tangling in my hair. “No,” he said with a grin.
He caught my chin, tugging me back to look at him, sending my heart ricocheting through my chest.
“Give a guy a second. One minute I'm messaging you wishing I could have you right here and the next thing...” He leaned in, kissing the corner of my mouth and I melted. Or that was what it felt like anyway. As if there wasn't a single solid organ in my body. “Here you are.”
“Orion,” I warned, determined to get my answer. “Lance,” he corrected.
“I want you to the point of pain, Blue.”
“Don't stop,” I answered it firmly, my heart hammering so loud he could certainly hear it. “I want this.” His eyes glittered at my words and he wet his mouth. “Show me how much,” he growled and electricity coursed up my spine.
I reared up, my nails clawing into his back as I adjusted to the fullness of him inside me. My teeth grazed his shoulder and he fisted his hand in my hair, tugging to make me look at him.
“I'm gonna lose my mind over you,” he gasped, burying himself inside me and everything became too hot.
“Talk to me, Blue,” he urged and I leaned my weight on his chest as he curled his arm around me and held me close. “Was this a mistake?” I whispered, hating the way he winced when I said it. “Not to me,” he said in an anxious tone. “Was it for you?” “No,” I said quickly, sliding my hand onto his cheek and grazing my fingers through his perfectly trimmed beard.
“If we ever get caught, I'll do everything in my power to ensure you don't get expelled,” he said seriously, a deep crease forming on his brow.
“I hope you meant the part about screwing me senseless.” Darius stood leaning against his doorframe at the end of the hall and I mentally shrugged off the altercation with Marguerite as I stalked towards him. I rolled my eyes at him. “In your dreams.” “Every night,” he agreed and his tone was serious enough that it brought a blush to my cheeks.
“What I’d like for a prize probably isn’t on the table,” he replied with a shrug. I looked up at him, meaning to ask what he meant by that but the look he gave me in return made me unsure if I wanted to know.
“You were the grumpy one,” I said, gesturing to the picture and Darius moved close behind me to look over my shoulder. He scoffed lightly. “Not always. But Seth had just destroyed a camp we’d been building all morning by shifting into a big fat werewolf pup right in the middle of it. He was so damn clumsy when his Order first emerged that he was constantly breaking everything, either by exploding into a wolf with no notice or by getting so hyped up he just fell over his own feet and caused chaos.”
“Always what?” he breathed like anything I might say would be the most interesting thing in the world.
“So, Father said there’s a theory that you and your sister will emerge as Dragons any day now,” Xavier said, forcing a subject change. “Maybe,” I said with a shrug, lifting my drink to my lips. “If you’re a Dragon maybe you can marry Darius and save him from Mildred,” Xavier suggested casually.
I agreed instantly, finally finding something I could agree with Darius Acrux on; we could both absolutely agree that the idea of marrying each other was abhorrent.
“Okay, there’s no you and Darius,” he agreed quickly. “But you might be doomed if that’s not what you want because I saw the way he was looking at you and Darius always gets what he wants once he sets his mind to it.” “Gross, dude, you’re gonna make me hurl,” I said, grimacing at him. “And I can assure you the hatred between me and your brother is entirely mutual. Neither of us want anything else.”
“We used to have tray races sliding down the stairs,” he said. “But we’re probably too big for that now.” “Pfft, Darius is probably too big with all his spare muscles and that big puffed up head of his but I’m sure we can manage,” I said. Xavier’s eyes lit with mischief for a moment but then the dare faded out of them and he shook his head. “It’s a dumb idea.”
“I haven’t done this in years,” he said. “You’re a bad influence.” “You have no idea,” I agreed. “I can see why Darius likes you.” “Ew, no, stop that,” I said, faking a shudder. “You’re just trying to put me off my game because you know I’m about to win.”
Xavier snatched my hand, dragging me upright and grinning so widely that for a moment it almost looked like he was glowing. “Again,” he demanded. “This time don’t be a chicken shit at the start line.” I barked a laugh and grabbed my tray, running back up the stairs at his side.
Xavier suddenly shifted back into his Fae form and I squeaked in surprise as I found myself in the arms of a very naked boy. He squeezed me against him so tightly that I could hardly breathe. “Thank you,” he whispered in my ear.
“For not even batting an eye. For actually thinking there’s something good about this.” Xavier leaned back and I looked up into the eyes of someone who was completely broken.
“Xavier,” I breathed, laying a hand on his cheek for a moment, unsure how to even begin to respond to the pain in his eyes. He pressed a kiss to the top of my head and released me, hurrying away up the stairs before I could say anything else. The door to his bedroom clicked shut and I was left standing with Darius who was looking at me like I’d just summoned the moon to come and sing us a lullaby.
“Am I keeping you from your friends?” he mocked. “That’s one of your friends actually. He’s very persistent.”
“Are you going to tell me what you want if you win?” I asked. “Something I can’t buy,” he replied, leaning a little closer. “Which I don’t think you’d give me if I just asked.” “What?” He was so close to me now that I could feel the warmth of him dancing in the air between us. His gaze fell to my mouth for the briefest of moments and my heart leapt of its own accord. “You’ll have to wait and see when I win.”
“Problem?” he asked, sounding amused as he rolled a red Yamaharpie out of the line up. “Did you tell Caleb we were out together?” I asked. “Were you planning on keeping it a secret?” he asked in response. “No,” I replied. “I’ll be telling everyone and anyone about how I won one of your precious bikes from you by tomorrow. But I get the feeling you might have annoyed him.”
Darius caught my hand and pulled me upright, before throwing his arm around my shoulders as he held his Atlas in front of us and took a picture while pressing a kiss to the top of my head. I couldn’t help but laugh as he took the picture which he instantly sent on to Caleb. “You’re an asshole,” I said halfheartedly as I ducked out from under his arm. “At least I’m consistent,” he replied with a laugh.
“What bike did you leave behind in the mortal world?” Darius asked and I opened my eyes to find him watching me like I was the most interesting goddamn thing he’d ever seen.
I looked back at the blazing wreckage of my bike and laughter burst from my lips. After a beat, Darius started laughing too and I leaned into him as my smile nearly split my face in two. That had been fucking insane but it had also been one hell of a rush.
He stepped closer again and I stepped back. I looked up into his eyes and found a smile playing around his lips. He walked me back another step. And another. My thighs hit the edge of his golden bed. Before he could move me again, my hand landed on his chest. “I should go,” I breathed. “Stay,” he replied instantly.
