She left a part of herself at that doctor’s office. I know, because I left a part of me too.
“It’s always emergencies this, work that. What about me, Mum? Me? Have you ever thought about me in all the decisions you make?”
“I know what you’re doing and it’s not going to work. You’ll never be able to push me away, so you might as well stop trying.”
“Because you’re in pain. I hate it when you’re in pain, Butterfly.”
told you, you’re not the only one responsible for this. Your pain is my pain, Butterfly.”
Because I know, I just know that if it were real, Cole and I would’ve fought for it. He would’ve taken me somewhere none of the reporters or the people from back home could find us.
Cole called me his chaos before, and I still don’t know whether that’s a good or a bad thing.
It’s the unknown, and the unknown can be the most beautiful thing.”
“You want to get a tattoo?”
“Together. You and
“I get to choose what you put on your skin.”
“And I get to choose what you put on yours.”
“Show me.” I motion at his T-shirt. “You first.” “At the same time?”
He nods and we lift our clothes, baring our skin at the same time.
Cole got the tattoo I chose for him and it’s even more beauti...

It’s a butterfly. And not just any butterfly. Cole sketched something that’s identical to the butterfly pin I wore that day ten years ago in the park.
The tattoo came out perfect with all the small details in the wing. It’s an exact match to the pin and similar to the necklace around my throat.
“It was because of the croissant.” “And here I thought you were seducing me.” “I-I wasn’t.” “Well, it worked.”
I take pictures with a barely-willing Cole who hardly looks at the camera and refuses to pose unless it involves a kiss or me touching him.
Because real life will strike again. Real life will rip us apart.
And the only place I can have him is behind closed doors.
Little doll, what have you done?
Every time I run to the park, he follows with a Snickers bar and kisses me on the nose.
“That’s because you were with Aiden. Now, you’re not.”
My relationship with Teal — if you could call it a relationship — is better than the one I have with Elsa. Partly because we crossed paths in La Débauche and we’re both into voyeurism.
She almost kissed him back there. He didn’t stop her, Ronan did. If he hadn’t, Cole would’ve let her fucking kiss him.
When I told him he’s too distrustful, he said he’s only prepared because they’re fuckers. His words, not mine.
“You really thought you could tell me you hate me and get away with it, Silver? I’ll eventually fuck that word out of you.”
He’s an excellent driver, so I don’t bump into anything, not even once.
“You want to come out?” he whispers without opening the boot. I hit the roof with my foot.
“What if I was claustrophobic, you arsehole?”
“You aren’t. You hide in your closet every time you write in your journals.” My lips part. “Y-you know about them?”
“What if they do, Silver? What if they fucking do?”
“That won’t change the fact that I fuck you and sleep with you every night. It doesn’t change the fact that you’re mine.”
This is Cole. He’s owned a part of my soul ever since that day in this very park.
He’s always had me. One twisted way or another.
“You’re messing me up, Silver. Why can’t I stop thinking about you for even a second?”
My heart warms. Cole doesn’t eat Snickers, or chocolate in general, but he always buys them for me. “Thanks.”
“I’m done playing your games, Silver. This is the last time you run from me.”
“I expect you to be with me because you want to, not run away because you can’t admit it to yourself.”
“Fuck everyone else. They don’t matter more than you and I.”
Mum is on her back as a man fucks her hard. And that man isn’t Lucien. It’s Papa.
To say the air is awkward and full of tension would be the understatement of the century. This isn’t how I’ve imagined our family reunion.
God. I can’t believe I walked in on my parents having sex. It’s even more disturbing now considering they’re no longer married.
“I think I saw exactly what it seems.”
“I did not need that image.” Papa looks at me weird, almost horrified, as if he’s just realising that I’m not his little girl anymore.
“Helen and I only got married for convenience. She had no idea how to handle the fortune William left behind, so I offered to help. One thing led to another and we sort of formed a partnership.”
“And a marriage.” Mum huffs. “She thought if she had you long enough, you’d probably fall for her graces. That woman is a snake.”
“Didn’t you always want us to be together?” Mum asks. “You planned it for years.”
