“You know, dress up the flat a little. Get some good wine and nice-smelling perfume and spread rose petals about.” “Roses make Percy sneeze.” “Well then, we shall substitute very finely chopped potatoes.”
It had felt like the first deep breath I’d ever taken, to tell him everything, to hear his half of it all, then hold them up together to find they fit like two pieces of cracked pottery.
Dear Lord, I am sincerely competing with food for his attention? Am I doing that poorly already?
“No.” “I’m sorry.” “No!” “I’m so sorry!” “I hate Richard Peele.” “WE HATE RICHARD PEELE!” I shout to the sea.
And then Percy jumps, and I jump too, or rather, I am forced to jump too, and it turns out the only thing worse than hitting the water is the painful eternity before hitting the water as my brain screams all the way down, THIS IS TOO FAR TO FALL AND LIVE.
