Recently, Chase required me to visit a branch in the US to do an ID check because I tried to do a wire transfer on my account for the first time in some months. These examples I’ve given are all false positives—they certainly do not represent an argument for continued viability of the branch. Why? Because as soon as a neo-bank competitor establishes a benchmark competency for these same capabilities without requiring a visit to a branch, then your bank will eventually be measured against that standard.
