“Well, the Van Helsing is safe to screw,” Anna states like it makes all the sense in the world, causing Violet’s eyes to roll.
“Because it’s like you attract chaos from all around you, and you just move right along as though it’s simply another day.”
“We want you to fuck me while I’m borrowing her body,” she says with all the ineloquence I made her promise not to use. “Because you’re pretty, gentlemanly, and have this alpha vibe I really like. Since you’re not gay, why not?”
“If you think she’s deliberately fucking with us, why are you in a hurry to get over there?” I grin. “Because I positively love that in a woman.”
“Maybe monsters should just use Facebook instead of bullying people into weird, suspicious friendships that don’t sound optional,” I mutter petulantly. I swear I hear her snort.
“They think she’s going to be my damn girlfriend or some shit, because they’re being way too nice to her.” His grin falls away. “She’s wearing my scent all over her, and they think she’s going to be yours?” This time, I’m the one to battle a grin. “They have faith in their alpha, unlike some people I know.”
“What else am I going to do with my time?” he asks me on an exasperated sigh. “Every time I look away, you’re disappearing for days, killing vampires, or shagging Vance in my bedroom.” “You weren’t looking away on that last part,” I remind him.
He’s like Anna. Once they’re in your life, you just adapt to their creepy ways and start to find the weird charm in them.
“Then let me explain rule number one. It’s simple, really,” he says, his lips brushing over mine as his hand runs up my hip. “Don’t fucking die.”
I hate him and want him, and everything about him is maddeningly confusing.
