The Last

It was only the image of the first English settlers, Jamestown, unable to grow crops and struck by famine over their first winter, digging up their own graveyards to eat their dead that filled me with any urgency. They had underestimated winter too. We couldn’t afford to do the same.

I think it was Stephen King who said that the sum of all human fear is just a door left slightly ajar.

If you don’t make the decision to love, every day, it’s an easy thing to forget.
