“You must be a card shark in real life.” “I’ve only ever played solitaire, so…no.”
“I’m not sure if I’m surrounded by strange people because I’m strange, or if that’s just how we gamers are,” Kit grumbled.
Solus draped an arm over Kit’s shoulders and tugged her towards him. She reluctantly complied. “We did well,” Solus stated. “‘We’ as in the raid?” Kit asked. “Don’t you and I count as a ‘we’?” Solus asked.
I might not be able to help Kit with Valdis, but I can at least stop anything that threatens her and lend her the fame of my name. I wish I could do more but…frankly I don’t think I mean enough to her for that. Again the memory of Kit collapsing against him in her relief assailed him, and a tiny spark of curiosity, or maybe hope, flickered in his mind. Maybe, hopefully, he meant more to her than he thought.
