“No, no, no! I just logged in—I can’t die in under a minute. That is a record I don’t want to break!”
“You are regretfully impulsive considering how intelligent you are.”
Pax breathed out loudly through his nose. “You are as poor-mannered as the divine oracle’s raccoon.” “I actually like Trash Panda a lot,” Kit said. “So thank you!”
“I wasn’t asking you,” Prowl snorted. “Of course you wouldn’t have something so inglorious happen to you.” Solus shrugged slightly. “As I was always careful to play in zones appropriate for my level, I was never under the threat of being unable to properly defend myself, so there was no risk of becoming captured.”
“How did a royal knight and an elf-who-should-be-a-pirate become pledged?” Kit opened and closed her mouth, at a loss for words. Solus Miles didn’t so much as blink. “She uses me for my body.” Kit, Noir, Prowl, and even Trash Panda, turned to stare in his direction.
“Are you a worm?” Prowl frowned slightly. “No.” “Then stop baiting them!”
Solus raised an eyebrow. “You aren’t used to having a pet—a helpful pet.” “Oooh, Pax, did you hear that?” Kit called to her winged warrior. “Solus just insulted you!” Pax ignored her and instead outstretched all four of his wings, making a few of his feathers fly around the area. “You have a fire-breathing dragon, and I have a stylish statue that occasionally likes to insult me,” Kit pursed her lips.
“It’s because having a snide and unhelpful divine oracle is better than no oracle at all,” Noir replied.
“It’s real,” Diablio breathed. “The game really is designed to pit us against Valdis.” “Yes,” Kit said, remembering Noir’s words. “We have entered a new age of Retha, which is a blessing. Though we are stranded, and EC doesn’t know how to free us, we can save ourselves.” “By killing Lord Valdis?” ViolentAlice asked. Kit nodded.
Solus raised an eyebrow. “It would be embarrassing if a pack of goblins managed to kill me when traveling with you—a magnet for disaster—has not yet been my end.” “Just wait,” Kit promised. “Give it time, and it will be unavoidable.” Solus slightly shook his head, squeezed her hand, and glided away.
“You offend everyone,” he said. “I do not!” “You do, too—your very existence is an insult. Invite me to your guild,” Noir said.
“I’m not sure if I’m surrounded by strange people because I’m strange, or if that’s just how we gamers are,” Kit grumbled.
