“I know your face by heart. You have seven freckles here.” I swipe a finger over the straight bridge of her nose and drift down to caress her full lips and the tiny dent in her cheek her smile displays. “And a dimple right here.”
The gulf between the truth and the lies we tell ourselves is filled with misery.
“But the daughter of a lion is still a lion, and this is your domain.”
She is day and I am night. When day and night are absolutely equal, it’s equinox.
“I saw you first,” he whispers, kissing the bridge of my nose where my freckles are. “I had you first.” He kisses my face where the dimple dents my cheek when I smile.
“I want you back,” he declares, meeting my eyes and taking my mouth in a deep kiss, never looking away.
I’ve seen several incarnations of this woman, but there is this steadfast strength to her, this obstinate light that refuses to dim. It’s still easily detected under a messy bun, slightly stained tank top, and yoga pants. She’s still my badass girl.
“For good is too sanitized. I want your dirt and your pain and your darkness. Your weakness and your flaws.”
