“There will be men who fall in love with your skin and others who drown themselves in everything that lies beneath.”
The gulf between the truth and the lies we tell ourselves is filled with misery.
“Do not live someone else's life and someone else's idea of what womanhood is. Womanhood is you."
“I don’t give a damn about odds,” she says. “Odds don’t tell me what I can’t do. Odds just tell me how hard I’ll have to work to get what I want. Don’t allow anyone to make you feel less.”
“What I’m saying is be unafraid to want it all and be disciplined enough to work hard to get it.”
It may be a jungle, and they may be lions . . .”
“But the daughter of a lion is still a lion, and this is your domain.”
She is day and I am night. When day and night are absolutely equal, it’s equinox. Banner is my equinox. My equal. The revelation rattles around inside me, but my face, my surface remains smooth.
That’s so cute. She thinks I give a fuck about her boyfriend.
“I don’t want you to hurt him. I want you to choose me.”
“I want to make you laugh like that every day.”
“I want another chance with you, Banner. The chance that was taken from us. I want to make love to you with the lights on.”
“I saw you first,” he whispers, kissing the bridge of my nose where my freckles are. “I had you first.” He kisses my face where the dimple dents my cheek when I smile. “I want you back,” he declares, meeting my eyes and taking my mouth in a deep kiss, never looking away.
“Because I won’t give up until you’re completely mine, Banner, and I won’t wait much longer.”
“Never do anything you can’t live with or walk away from the person you can’t live without.”
“Do you know why I came here tonight?”
“Why’d you come?” “To make sure he didn’t forgive you.”
And he may be a good man, but he is not above leveraging even the worst circumstances in his life to get what he wants. That I can respect. He did something very few men have gotten away with. Son of a bitch blocked my shot.
i cannot love you gently, it’s not in me to love in part, so I will love You completely, and a little madly . . .
“Nothing I ever did was a sacrifice, Jared,” he said. “It was a privilege raising you, one I took very seriously.”
“I don’t want you for good, Banner,” he says. “I want you forever.”
“Banner, I’m set on you,” I continue. “And if you’ll have me, I promise you won’t regret it. I’ll love you every day for the rest of my life.”
“I don’t deserve you, Jared Foster,” she says, softly, surely. “But I’m going to have you anyway.”
“Some people want world peace. I want you."
“I have high standards, too. And you meet and exceed every one of them. You are a good man, and you’re the one I choose to spend the rest of my life with. You’re my standard, Jared. Trial, triumph, good days, bad days. I want to walk with you through every circumstance, and I want to spend every day for the rest of my life loving you. Te amo.”
