Naturally, whitetail hunters tend to look for two things: food and cover. There’s nothing wrong with this, but on public land food is secondary to security. Actually, on common dirt everything is secondary to security for the whitetail. Deer are amazing at finding ways to fill their bellies, and even in the late season, they aren’t going to allow hunger pangs to put them in danger.
