The author Elizabeth Gilbert, in a talk extolling the benefits of “the curiosity-driven life,”81 shares a wonderful analogy involving jackhammers and hummingbirds. According to Gilbert, people who behave like jackhammers focus obsessively on one thing, drilling deeper and deeper.
