And the excellent thing about success is that it always comes down to one simple thing: the decision to keep going until you’ve reached your goal.
Success requires commitment, motivation, focus, a sense of purpose, and courage, and it requires that you continually strengthen these muscles so you meet each new challenge with a big ole can of get-the-fuck-outta-my-way.
An excuse is simply a challenge that you’ve decided has power over you. If you’re serious about changing your life, you’ll find a way past all your obstacles; if you’re kinda sorta serious about changing your life, you’ll find an excuse.
Excuses also help us avoid facing our fears and stop us from opening ourselves up to unknown possibilities that can only reveal themselves if we let our excuses go.
Not-so-great thoughts, impulses, and ideas only grow if we feed them. If you’re pretending you’re addicted to the sugary pull of immediate gratification brought on by negative impulses, keep in mind that staying disciplined is simply a matter of waiting and refocusing, it’s not some untamable beast.
All worrying will do is make you live through the misery twice.
Giving people the benefit of the doubt is excellent practice for not taking stuff personally, and it gives you room to focus on more beneficial aspects of your life than on how pissed off you are.
Change what you can change, accept what you cannot change, and every time you find yourself about to start stewing on something scary, irritating, or worrisome (practice staying aware of when this is happening, please), say to yourself, “I choose to forget this,” and move on.
Overwhelm is a mindset; it’s the choice to focus on everything all at once and stress yourself out.
Visualize whatever new situation you are excited and totally not screwing around about creating for yourself. See it, feel it, own it, be it, shout it from the mountaintop, keep this energy strong. Then . . . Do something that will advance you toward this new reality that scares the holy heck out of you or that makes you extremely uncomfortable or that pushes you beyond what you once pretended your limits were.
