“The bastard gave me a hickey?” In a dream?
Okay. Life sucked. But at least she didn’t have another freaky sex dream where she got bitten.
The male put his nose in her hair and took a deep breath. A convulsive shiver racked her body in response. He was sniffing her. She felt his nose at the back of her neck. He rubbed his face in her hair.
“Good chase,” he growled, his voice a dark rumble at her back. She coughed and sand puffed up in front of her. “Not long enough.”
“So, is that your long, scaly, reptilian tail, or are you just happy to see me?”
“I didn’t mean to say that. Um, pay no attention to the lunatic inhabiting this body.”
I’ve been acting out a lot with all the stress. This stranger seems to have taken over my mouth. She doesn’t seem to come installed with a brake.
“I bet you want your penny back, huh?”
“No one takes what is mine.”
He was going to hurt her so bad before he killed her so dead, and all she could think of was how hot his kiss had been in the dream and how delicate the touch of his finger was as it traced down her body.
Dragos picked up a lock of her hair and fingered it.
She wondered if he could still be aroused while he ripped her head from her shoulders.
“Well, this is socially inexplicable,” she muttered. “Hush,” Dragos said.
Dragos fisted his hand in the long bright strands and held it to his nose, inhaling.
The cream in her light skin was like pearls.
“You’re just going to kill me. Why don’t we get this over with already?”
“You have no idea what I am going to do,” he told her.
Dragos followed, frowning. Just like he didn’t like the photo of her walking away from the camera, he didn’t like her voice dull and flat or her expression shuttered.
Assuming I’m not on the menu for your dinner, I don’t have anything to feed you that you’ll like.”
He realized something. For the first time in a long time, perhaps even centuries, he wasn’t bored.
his little thief had continued to surprise him.
You said, ‘Get something.’ Most people would say, ‘Get something, please.’ ” “Ah.” Dragos folded his arms. “But I did not ask for anything. I ordered it.”
Her ponytail was a mess, he noted with disapproval as it spilled toward the floor. He kept one hand at the back of her neck.
he worked the puffy elastic thing out of her hair until it fell free, if still somewhat tangled. He slipped the puffy thing into his pocket.
She was his thief, nobody else’s.
“Yes, I know,” he said, impatient. “I am going to rend you from limb to limb. Someday. When I feel like it. In the meantime, you will not faint, you will get warm and you will stop being distressed.” His nostrils pinched. “I don’t like how it smells.”
He covered her hands with one of his own, steadying the mug, and pressed a finger against her lips. “Stop that.”
Scowling, he tapped her lips. “I’ll just, I don’t know, be happy until you decide to start rending.”
Definitely has its own charm. I bet all your other prisoners love it.”
He held fast and used his voice instead of his mind. “Quiet, female,” he murmured. “Be quiet now.”
“Valium’s got nothing on you,” she murmured.
“Don’t make assumptions about what I am interested in or what I will think or what I will do.
“We clear?” She nodded, her color deepening.
“We’ve already established I was an idiot.
Nothing could cage her.
I’m sorry. I suppose you’ll want to do the rending now.”
Despite the colossal danger this creature represented, she had quite an irrational desire to curl up in his warmth.
“You committed a crime,” he said. “And you owe me. Say it.”
“You will serve me until I deem the debt is paid. Is that clear?”
He bent his head until his nose just touched the top of hers, inhaling.
His hands guided her to rest on his chest.
“There is nothing you could steal that I couldn’t get in any number of other ways. I will not put you in harm’s way.”
He kept her head cradled in one hand and put an arm around her. He murmured, “I do not endanger my treasures.”
“I wasn’t aware that I gave you a choice,”
“She is mine.” Dragos bared his teeth, gold eyes flaring to lava.
His dangerous face clenched. “You’re mine,” he told her.
Dragos curled a hand around her ankle.
Not when she was so much less than what he thought she was, nothing very special at all, just a glow-in-the-dark night-light and a stupid parlor trick and a big mouth that got her into too much trouble.
The jealous hand on her ankle tightened. She looked down at Dragos, who was watching her with a narrowed gaze.
All I took was a freaking penny. Besides, I already gave you another one.” One corner of his long, sexy, cruel mouth lifted in a smile.
