In the first draft of CURSE, Harper's phone acted like the traditional "magic mirror" that would let her see what was going on in her home world. My editor and I worried that having Harper see the real world was too distracting from the immersion into Emberfall, so I had to remove all those scenes. It was a fun challenge to figure out how Harper could still make the same discoveries (like finding out her brother was in love and he'd been keeping it a secret) without actually "seeing" things happen.
